What happens in case of a strike or cancellation?

Even though our rail tours are planned around reliable connections based on years of experience, there can be unforeseen circumstances due to which your train is cancelled.

  • Our Rail Tours are planned and booked with flexible tickets, meaning that it's almost always possible to take the next train. Consult your travel itinerary, the train/station staff and/or a train planning app for the next connection. European trains run very frequently.
  • In case that a train with reserved seats is cancelled, please request a reservation for the next connection from onboard or station staff. During office hours you can also email us at hi@happyrail.com. In some cases you might need to pay for your new reservation or ticket; please contact us on whether a refund is possible.
  • In case of a strike, train operators are by law required to inform us of the strike, and which trains are cancelled, in advance. We will check whether any of the trains in your rail tour are cancelled, and if so, inform you and send you a new schedule. Please contact our travel agents on whether any refunds are possible for your specific case.

This answer only applies to our Rail Tour package holidays; for questions abut individual train tickets, please see the Frequently Asked Questions for Train tickets or for Rail Passes.
