Can I take my pet on the train?
Unfortunately, at the moment we're unable to offer tickets for pets. Some pets are allowed without a ticket. Below you'll find the rules on taking pets on the train:
Deutsche Bahn (Germany)
Pets are allowed on board but aren't welcome in the bistro. Pets that fit into a cage or basket and guide dogs for the blind may travel free of charge. However, guide dogs for the blind need a special ticket. Other dogs are allowed for a fee as long as they are muzzled.
Eurostar (United Kingdom)
Pets (including assistance dogs) are unfortunately not welcome on the Eurostar. The only exception is guide dogs for the blind.
Italo (Italy)
Pets under 10kg can travel for free if they're in a basket or cage. Pets heavier than this or pets that don't fit in a basket or cage may travel with you, only if they're leashed and muzzled, against an additional fee. The corresponding service can be booked and paid for locally.
Nighttrain ÖBB (Austria / Switzerland)
Dogs are allowed only if you've booked a private compartment for the night train. When boarding and leaving the train, dogs must be muzzled and kept on a leash. On the train, you can buy a dog ticket from the train manager.
NS (The Netherlands)
On domestic trains, dogs are allowed with a dog day ticket (€3.30). On the IC to Brussels, small pets may travel for free in a basket, bag or cage with a maximum size of 30x30x55 cm. Pets larger than that may travel with you at a cost of €6. A muzzle is recommended.
Guide dogs for the blind travel free. However, a companion ticket (free) is required.
SBB (Switzerland)
For dogs of any size you always pay half the price of 2nd class ticket or a maximum of 25 CHF for a day pass on site at the station. Animals that can travel with you in a basket, cage or bag no larger than 30 cm (l x w x h) may travel for free. Animals must be seated so as not to block the passageway.
TGV (France)
Small pets are allowed as long as they don't cause a nuisance to fellow passengers. They must be transported in a box or basket not exceeding 0.55 x 0.30 x 0.30m. Tickets can be purchased at stations in France for €6.90.
If your pet doesn't fit in a box or basket, it must be muzzled. Again, you can purchase a ticket for this at the station.
Thalys (France)
Small pets weighing less than 6 kg may travel free of charge in a basket or cage not exceeding 45 x 30 x 25cm in size. Pets larger than this may travel muzzled and pay the dog fee to the conductor. If other passengers object to the presence of your pet, the train manager may move you to another seat on the train.
Guide dogs and other assistance dogs may travel free of charge.
Trenitalia (Italy)
Pets that fit into a basket or cage not exceeding 70 x 30 x 50cm may travel on the train free of charge. Larger pets are allowed if they are leashed and muzzled.
