How much baggage can I take with me? How do I check in my baggage at the station?
Baggage restrictions
- European trains generally have no baggage restrictions, except that you must be able to carry your baggage onto the train by yourself (maximum of 3 pieces per person). We recommend limiting the amount of baggage you take, to make boarding easier, and to always keep an eye on your baggage.
- Please be aware that on all high-speed trains in France, as well as on international Eurostar trains, your baggage must have a label with your name and address.
- Low-cost carriers like Ouigo, Avlo and Flixtrain allow a limited amount of baggage to be taken on board. You may need to pay extra for additional pieces of baggage ; please see your carrier's ticket and website for more information.
Baggage
check-in
- You do not need to check in your baggage on European trains. Simply carry your baggage onto the train and store it yourself in a baggage rack where space is available.
- Please note: In Spain your baggage does need to be checked in on high-speed train services. We therefore advice to arrive at the station in Spain 30 minutes in advance. Please note that you must still carry the baggage to the train by yourself.
Baggage storage
European trains almost always have baggage racks under and above the seats.
Most long-distance and high-speed trains also have separate baggage racks next to the seats.
